What Is HypnoBirthing®?
HypnoBirthing is a childbirth method, that focuses on preparing parents for gentle birth. HypnoBirthing encourages a calm, peaceful, and natural pregnancy, birth, and bonding experience for families.
Unlike other childbirth methods that teach you how to cope with and manage pain, HypnoBirthing is based on the premise that childbirth does not necessarily need to be painful if the mother is properly prepared and relaxed. When women understand that pain is caused by constrictor hormones, created by fear, they learn, instead, to release fear thus creating endorphins—the feel good hormones. They are then able to change their expectations of long, painful labor and are able to replace them with expectations of a more comfortable birthing. Rather than exhausting, shallow breathing techniques so readily found in birth classes; HypnoBirthing parents learn deep abdominal breathing and total relaxation, enabling the laboring mother to work in harmony with her body and her baby. This allows her to achieve a shorter and more comfortable labor for herself and baby.
There is a myth being told to our women in the United States that their labor and delivery must be a painful process. The method and philosophy of Hypnobirthing dispels that myth through the understanding of our birthing bodies reaction to stress versus relaxation.
How Are Workshops Taught?
Hypnobirthing workshops are comprised of five classes which meet once a week for 2-1/2 hours. Classes are comprised of mothers to be and their delivery support (be it husband, partner, doula, midwife, or friend). Hypnobirthing is a simple process of rewriting the story women subconsciously have about labor and delivery from one of fear to one of the natural, empowered, controlled, minimally painful labor they were born to have.
Class sizes are kept small, and attendance is limited to between three and seven couples.
Hypnobirthing brings women to a state of deep focus in which they can relax their bodies while still being in complete mental control, navigating the stages of labor safely and easily. Whether birthing at home, at a birth center or in the hospital, the Mongan method of Hypnobirthing will equip laboring mothers to have the birth they intuitively know they can have.
When Is The Best Time To Participate In A Workshop?
The classes are appropriate for any stage in pregnancy, however, sooner is better. Much can be gained by participating in the workshop early so that proper nutrition, daily relaxation and self-hypnosis can be practiced and mastered.
Some statistics to think about:
From 2005 to 2010 17% of US HypnoBirthing® mothers birthed via C-Section, compared to the national average of 32%
9.5% of HypnoBirthing® mothers chose to birth in the comfort of their homes. The national average is less than 1%
6% of HypnoBirthing® mothers chose to birth in freestanding birth centers. The national average is less than 1%
Only 23% of HypnoBirthing® mothers birthing vaginally had epidural anesthesia, compared to the national average of 71%
Here is what others are saying about the Mongan method:
Contemporary women in our culture hold an unprecedented fear of giving birth, having too often been conditioned to associate it with excruciating pain, thereby causing their bodies to become tense and unable to perform what should be a normal physiological function. Founded by Marie Mickey Mongan, HypnoBirthing®, currently successfully practiced in 34 countries throughout the world, is a unique method of relaxed, natural childbirth education enhanced by self-hypnosis and guided imagery techniques that allows women to use their natural instincts to bring about safer, easier, more comfortable birthing.
HypnoBirthing® includes a very simple program of self-hypnosis and education that helps women work through fear-based stories and misinformation to come to see birth as normal, learning to trust their bodies’ ability to bring babies into the world in the calm and gentle way that nature intended and to call upon their bodies’ own natural endorphins and thus eliminate or greatly reduce the need for pain medication.
HypnoBirthing® teaches a woman how to release all prior programming about birth to free herself of limiting thoughts and emotions that lead to pain-causing fear and resistant muscles. When giving birth with HypnoBirthing®, a mother is not in a trance or asleep but instead in a state akin to focused daydreaming, awake, aware, and fully in control, but profoundly relaxed.

Hi- I just came across your website via the Hypnobirthing directory on-line. I am interested in your classes/private sessions. My due date is August 9. Can you send me more info.?
I would love to ParticiPate in this however I am due Aug 3rd. Is there anyway to go to one or 2 classes and get some of the info?
Thanks
Tonya
Hey Tonya,
If you live in Sonoma County I would recommend that you take the hypnobirthing workshop privately with me so that we can meet two times a week before your due date. The workshop is typically a five week, five class series that builds upon itself for maximum comfort with the method. The Hypnobirthing Institute allows us teachers to teach the method in a more swift schedule for women who are due before the group five week classes are complete.
I am going to e-mail you directly with some more information on private sessions. Be looking for a letter from Bluelotusfertility@gmail.com
Hope you are well!
